OBITUARIES Catharine Thomas MADISON A mass of Christian burial for Catharine Jones Miller Thomas, 102, of Madison, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Cathedral, Jackson. She died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015.

Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Jackson, under the direction of Parkway Funeral Thomas 0 e. Ridgeland. Thomas A native Jacksonian, Catharine was born June 30, 1913, the daughter of the late Charles Walter and Julia Knox Coffee Jones, and was a lifelong devoted member of the Catholic Church. She attended St. Joseph Academy grade school, and was a 1930 graduate of Central High School.

Catharine attended Millsaps College, where she served at president of Phi Mu sorority, and was a 1934 graduate of St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in Terre Haute, Ind. On March 2, 1935, she married William Henry "Bill" Miller, of Vicksburg. While living there, she was a founding member of the Vicksburg Junior Auxiliary, serving as its first treasurer. Returning to Jackson with her family in 1938, Catharine began many years of activity in the civic and social life of the city.

She served as president of the Junior League of Jackson, 1942- 44, and also volunteered as a Gray Lady at the VA during World War II, while her husband served in the Navy in the Pacific. Past memberships included the Debutante Club of Mississippi, the Seventy-Five Club, the Monday Club, the Matrons Luncheon Club and presently the Catholic Foundation. For almost 25 years, Get Building A Better Future! LINDA W. MILLER City Council 2nd Ward she was employed in the Chancery Office of the Catholic Diocese of Jackson. In 1979, four years after Mr.

Miller's death, she married Judge Daniel Holcombe Thomas, of Mobile, and resided there for the next 20 years. While living in Mobile, she was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church, the Junior League of Mobile, and the National Society of Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century of Alabama. Upon Judge Thomas' death in 2000, Catharine moved to St. Catherine's Village in Madison, where she has resided until now.

Catharine was affectionately called "GAGA" by her family, and will be truly missed by all who loved and cared for her. Throughout her lifetime, her gifts of thoughtfulness, wit, mischievous spirit and charm were always the personification of a refined ladylike manner. Besides enjoying her family and role as homemaker, her fondest pastime was the game of bridge, and through the years she belonged to many bridge groups. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; her brother, Brigadier General Charles Duncan Jones, U.S.A.F., her son-in-law, Tom Moore; and her stepson, Tommy Thomas. Survivors include her daughters, Angie (David) McNamara, of Ridgeland, and Cathie Moore, of Jackson; her stepson, Merrill (Carolyn) Thomas, of Mobile, her grandchildren, David (Susan) McNamara Julie McNamara, and Will (Jamie) McNamara, all of Jackson; Mary Ellen (Mike) McMillon, of Collierville, Walter Moore, of Houston, Texas, Keeley Moore, of Washington, D.C.; Pratt (Sarah) Thomas, Webb (Katherine) Thomas and Daniel Thomas, all of Mobile; Kevin Thomas, Rob (Carie) Thomas and Katie (Maelo) Donadio, of Tequesta, 15 greatgrandchildren; one greatgreat-granddaughter; and three nieces and many cousins.

Roy Thedford GREENVILLE Visita- tion for Roy Edward Thedford, 76, of Greenville, will be from 2-3 p.m. Thursday at Mortimer Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015, at Delta Regional Medical Center. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville, under the direction of Mortimer Funeral Home, Greenville.

There will be no funeral service. Roy was born April 10, 1939, in Washing County, the son of Lee Thedford and Fannie Dempsey Thedford. He was a Free Mason, a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Elks Club of Greenville. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Joyce Thedford. He is survived by two sons, George L.

Thedford, of Greenville, and Terry J. Thedford, of Grayson, and a grandson, James Thedford, of Nashville, Tenn. Matilda Johnson CANTON Funeral services for Matilda Ann Johnson, 86, of Canton and formerly of Greenville, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Harris Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Sunday, Aug.

Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church, Greenville. He died just before midnight, Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015 at Washington Care Center, Greenville. Everett was born June 14, 1922, in Ethel, the son of Aley Sims and Rosie Newsom Sims.

He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving four years during World War II. He later moved to Greenville to work for JD Rosella's in conditioning and appliances. Heretired in 1987 from King's Daughters Hospital as physical plant director. After retirement, he enjoyed camping and traveling for many years. He was also a member and Deacon at Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Retha Sims Jennings, Willie Sims Self, Vassie Sims, Nicey Sims and Pearl Sims Edwards; and four brothers, Hildon Sims, Walker Sims, Cecil Sims and Clarence Sims. He is survived by his wife, Juddie Bean Sims; two sons, Howard K. Sims of Dundalk, Md. and Steven C.

(Beth Hoeker) Sims, of Huntersville, N.C.; and two grandsons, Samuel Sims, of Tallahasee, and Benjamin Sims, of Huntersville, N.C. Visitation will be from 10- 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. She will be laid to rest with her husband in a private ceremony in Beulah. As a teenager, she moved to Greenville with her family from Texas. She attended Solomon Junior High and Greenville High School, having been a cheerleader, junior class president and class covaledictorian when she graduated in 1977. She had a long history of employment with Utility Products, Uncle Ben's Boeing and Valent USA. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Stephen Conn Hovas; and her parents, Bob and Bea Perkins.

She is survived locally by her sister and brother, Pam and Stan Perkins; her nephew, Austin Perkins; and a host of relatives from Texas and many close friends. Marianne Hollinghead GREENVILLE Funeral services for Marianne Weeks Hollinghead, 67, of Greenville, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mortimer Funeral Home, Greenville.

She died in the morning hours on Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, at her home with her family by her side. Services are under the direction of Mortimer Funeral Home, Greenville. Marianne was born Oct. 25, 1946, in Shaw, the daughter of James Upton Weeks and Berdine Ramsey Weeks.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her son, Karman (Tracie) Hollinghead, of Maben; her daughter, Kimberly (Bobby) Tharp, of Leland; her sister, Linda Ramage, of Leland; her brother, David Weeks, of Greenwood; her grandchildren, Zane Hollinghead, Tray Hollinghead, Kam Hollinghead, Lee Nichols, Nikie (Jeremy) Taylor, Swade Thomas, Brian Tharp, Chris Tharp and Gage Tharp; and her greatgrandchildren, Peyton Taylor, Archer Taylor, Chandler Taylor, Braylon Nichols and Mason Nichols.
